Winter on the canal
Important!
Soulanges cycling path : in the event of heavy snow falls, snow operations will begin in the city streets, then the path will be cleared. Delays may occur. Your cooperation is appreciated. Please note that public toilets, excluding the one in Pointe-des-Cascades are closed during the winter. We recommand having a peek at our info-works interactive maps. You will find on there the state of the trails and the progress of plowing operations, as well as any closures of sections in case of very bad weather.
Winter walking and biking
You enjoyed your summer at the canal? Come and enjoy the beauty of winter with us as well! During the cold season, the bike path is cleared of snow for walkers and winter bikes.
Most parking lots are accessible for the winter period. You will find them in the following locations:
- Pointe-des-Cascades: on ch. Du Fleuve(in front of the church or in front of St. Pierre Park) or on the 338 in front of Claude st.
- Les Cèdres: ch St. Antoine (south of the intersection with route 338) and ch St. Féréol (north of the intersection with route 338)
- Coteau-du-Lac: Paul-Stevens Park (St. Emmanuel st) and downtown (parking lot adjacent to 20 Principale st.)
- Les Coteaux : a few parking spots available near the intermunicipal Coteau-du-Lac / Les Coteaux swimming pool
Hiking
Pilot project : trail grooming in Pointe-des-Cascades’ Parc Nature
With the help of Loisir et sports Montérégie and the Ministry of Education of Quebec, the park’s trails will be groomed, giving access to walkers and bikers to the trails in winter. This project is also possible thanks to the effort of Pointe-des-Cascades and the Soulanges Canal Park as part of the program ”En Montérégie, on bouge!” Come enjoy enchanting winter sceneries in the trails of the Parc nature de Pointe-des-Cascades!
Hikers, beware of descents: crampons are strongly recommended, as the road may be icy.

- La Borne Trail
*These trails avoid snowmobile tracks. For your own safety, stay on the footpaths.
To access the trails, enjoy the free parking in front of St. Pierre Park. You can then access the trails by the Parc nature entrance, located right besides the pergola. Start your adventure on the Canal Promenade Trail, which will then connect you to the rest of the trails. Rediscover your favorite landscapes with a touch of winter magic !
