2nd date for 2023 by popular demand: July 15, 2023!
Annual kayak and SUP trip down the Soulanges Canal!
Back by popular demand, we’re opening a 2nd date for the Soulanges canal descent with commuting, on July 15th!
The 7.5 km route with portages allows you to discover and appreciate the magnificent landscape and architecture of the canal, especially Lock 4 of the Soulanges Canal!
Date: July 15, 2023, postponed to July 16 in case of rain.
Schedule: Continuous departures between 9:30 and 10:30 am.
Cost: Free for people who own their own kayak/SUP. 25$ to rent a kayak or SUP for the duration of the event, to be delivered to the starting point of the descent and includes PFD, paddle and safety kit. Limited places, registration required.
Location: Meeting point, parking and departure of the land shuttle (the aim is to leave your vehicle at the end of the descent): Pointe-des-Cascades (parking in the curve of the 338). Final details of event logistics, departure times, shuttle service and parking will be sent to participants a few days before the event.
Paddling circuit : From Rang Saint-Féréol (Les Cèdres) to the heart of the village of Pointe-des-Cascades, there will be two portages to make. The first at Lock 4 of the Soulanges Canal (approx. 500 m) and the second at Rang Saint-Antoine (street crossing).
Level of difficulty: The paddling level required is beginner. Nevertheless, we classify this event as Intermediate, due to the portages and the ingress and egress of water. The canal is a waterway with steep, naturalized banks, so getting in and out of the water at the portages requires good strength and agility. Choose light and solid boats and sail in pairs or in small groups.
Duration: between 2 and 3 hours, for an average paddler.
Looking forward to sharing this moment with you!
Financial partners : The Soulanges Canal Park wishes to acknowledge the financial contribution of the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Vaudreuil-Soulanges and the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation for their support in setting up the Soulanges Canal Park under the RCM “Signature innovation” projects component of the Fonds régions et ruralité.
