Three new heritage expositions to discover this fall at the Soulanges Canal Park
The Soulanges Canal Park is proud to unveil three major heritage enhancement projects. These projects will transport you to the heart of the Soulanges Canal’s history, from yesterday to today. In addition to new physical panels, the Park invites visitors to discover enhanced content on its brand-new interactive platform. It’s the perfect way to discover the most beautiful autumn landscapes the park has to offer!
Archipel multi-sensory stations
The Archipel project, the result of a citizen co-creation process led by the TRAMES organization in 2019-2020, is taking physical shape at the canal with the installation of ten sound and visual interpretation stations. Each station invites visitors to listen to audio vignettes highlighting the relationship between riverside communities and the Soulanges Canal, while offering historical facts and photographic archives. The Soulanges Canal (1899-1958): An exhibition revisited
Ten heritage interpretation panels installed since 2005 have been completely revamped to present an enhanced version of the exhibition The Soulanges Canal (1899-1958). Thanks to the meticulous work of the Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, the texts have been revised and enriched, and new archival images have been integrated into the project. A new edition of the oriflamme banner exhibition
Twenty-seven new oriflamme banners are displayed on structures marking every kilometer of the bike path between Pointe-des-Cascades and Saint-Zotique. The 2025 exhibition features historic photos of the canal and the region, inviting you to stop and learn more about the panoramas on display. Labels and QR codes are installed on each structure, so you can continue your discovery of the region’s history. About the partners
These three projects were supported by the Quebec government and the Vaudreuil-Soulanges MRC under the cultural development agreement (2021-2023 and 2024), as well as by the “Signature innovation” component of the Fonds régions et ruralité of the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation (MAMH).
The Archipel project also benefited from the Programme d’innovation culturelle et numérique of the Conseil des arts et de la culture de Vaudreuil-Soulanges (CACVS), and the audio vignettes of the initial TRAMES project were supported by the Conseil des arts de Montréal’s Des ponts culturels, d’une rive à l’autre program, and the collaboration of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and the municipalities of Pointe-des-Cascades, Les Cèdres, Coteau-du-Lac and Les Coteaux.
The Park would like to thank all the partners who contributed to these achievements, in particular Geneviève Murray, the Collectif Escargo, the Société de recherches historiques de Pointe-des-Cascades, the Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges and the Centre d’archives de Vaudreuil-Soulanges. Finally, a special thank you to the citizens who lent their voices and their stories to the Archipel project.
